State Department terminates nonproliferation measures against South Korea’s JS Research

WASHINGTON, September 8, 2026 — The US State Department has terminated nonproliferation measures against JS Research Inc., a South Korean entity, and any successor, sub-unit or subsidiary, according to a Federal Register notice published Tuesday.

The US government made the decision Aug. 27 to terminate measures that had been imposed Jan. 22 under the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act, or INKSNA. The notice did not provide a reason for lifting the restrictions.

The January action had subjected JS Research and several other foreign persons to measures under Section 3 of INKSNA. The law targets certain transfers to or acquisitions from Iran, Syria or North Korea of goods, services or technology that could contribute to weapons of mass destruction or missile programs.

Measures imposed on JS Research included a ban on US government procurement of its goods, technology or services and a prohibition on US government assistance. The restrictions also barred US government sales of items on the US Munitions List and prevented the issuance of new individual licenses for certain controlled exports, while suspending existing licenses.

The January measures were originally due to remain in effect for two years unless the secretary of state subsequently determined otherwise. Tuesday’s notice ends those measures for JS Research roughly seven months after they took effect.

The termination notice was signed by Christopher T. Yeaw, assistant secretary of state for arms control and nonproliferation. The action applies specifically to JS Research and does not state that measures against the other persons named in the January notice have been terminated.
